How it works

DLA is paid once per PCS move to help with the costs of setting up a new household. The amount depends only on your pay grade and whether you have dependents.

DoD sets new rates each January 1. These are the 2026 rates from the Per Diem, Travel and Transportation Allowance Committee.

Partial DLA is a separate flat payment for certain government-ordered local moves, such as moving in or out of government quarters.

Whether you qualify depends on your orders and the Joint Travel Regulations. Your finance office confirms the final amount.
